The High Performance Wall

This session will outline the ever increasing challenges presented by changes to building codes and energy programs, material and design choices and consumer expectations in creating high performance buildings. Specifically this workshop will focus on the science behind making walls more durable, safer and more energy efficient without compromising cost effectiveness and build-ability. This information presented will empower participants to implement new technologies, materials and processes into their building practices.

This session will be of most interest to:

* New home builders, re-modelers, architects and designers, commercial general contractors, trades and building suppliers, building officials and energy raters

Learning Highlights:

* Identify the increased importance of key air and weather barrier details to maintain long-term durability in the face of increasing energy efficient requirements
* Understand the total thermal effectiveness of wall systems and why this is important in meeting new code and green program requirements
* Provide an overview of wall systems alternatives and their overall impact on air, heat and moisture flow
* Identify construction detail options for the installation of different insulation strategies in traditional framed wall systems, such as exterior insulated sheathing

Speaker Bio:

Gord Cooke is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years experience in the residential building industry as a manufactures, agent, consultant and trainer. Gord is an effective and passionate educator and advocate for implementing better building practices and products. He has developed and delivered numerous technical and sales training courses across Canada and the US. He combines aspects of advanced building science, indoor air quality, mechanical systems and energy efficient building programs, to assist builders and contractors in promoting the technological improvements of new houses.
